Moscow State Technical University named after NG E. Bauman

Status of educational institutions:State

July 1, 1830 (Old Style) Emperor Nicholas I approved the "Regulation on workshop educational institution.” From this date the chronology of the first technical university in Russia had started. The aim of the school was training in various directions combined with a deep theoretical background. By 1868 the quality of teaching in the "crafts school" had become very high and it was decided to reorganize it into a special institution of higher education - the Imperial Moscow Technical School (IMTU).

The main IMTU purpose was "to form mechanical builders, mechanical engineers and technical engineers." IMTU achieved outstanding success in technological sciences, chemical, food and textile industries, metal and wood processing, and mechanics.

July 27, 1989 by the decision of the USSR State Committee for Public Education the Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School had awarded the status of Technical University. Bauman MSTU was privileged to be the first technical university in the country.

University provides training for more than 19 thousand students across the entire spectrum of modern engineering and instrumentation. Scientific and educational work is carried out by more than 320 doctors and 2,000 candidates. The main structural units of the Bauman University are 8 scientific and educational complexes.  Moreover training is carried out by specialized departments, created on the basis of large enterprises, organizations and institutions of the military industrial complex, located in Moscow and Moscow region: Reutov, Krasnogorsk and Korolev, as well as in the university branch in Kaluga.  Since 1934 Bauman MSTU has unique experience in training of the number of students with ear disabilities.

Bauman Moscow State Technical University - one of the three universities of Russia (the other two - Moscow State University and the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University), which in 1926 began military training of students. Today the Military Institute of the University trains officers for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 21 military professions. Specialties FVO rely on basic university degree and deepen the training of highly qualified specialists in the civil profession. The Institute consists of five military departments, Department of Civil Defense and military training center. Practical training is carried out on the training ground in the Dmitrov University branch (military equipment department).

In the field of international activities Bauman MSTU is cooperating in the framework of programs of bilateral and multilateral exchange of students, graduate students, doctoral students, teaching and research staff; trains foreign students on the contract base; participates in joint research, teaching workings out, as well as conventions, conferences and seminars. Currently the university has established links with more than 70 universities in Europe, America and Asia.

All teaching and research activity of Bauman MSTU staff is aimed at the future. It includes participation in conversion programs, reassessment of priorities in the development of new research directions in technology, the development of national technological base capable to fill the intellectual potential of the high-tech industry, efficiently and effectively influence the process of stabilizing the domestic economy in the interests of national security and sustainable development of Russia.

The combination of accurate scientific calculations with engineering intuition, respect for the traditions of engineers training on "Russian method", a subtle sense of novelty in the selected areas, socio-economic approach of solving complex technical problems, humane training allow Bauman MSTU remain at the forefront of world science and technology.

Bauman MSTU is characterized by close cooperation with industry, multi-faceted relations with institutions of science, education and culture. TsAGI, Air Force Academy Zhukovsky, NAMI, CIAM, a number of faculties MIHM, MChTI and Engineering Physics Institute, Military Academy of Chemical Defence, MAI, MEI, Moscow Architectural Institute and a number of other leading academic, research and industrial organizations make honor and glory «Alma Mater», which gave them a start in life. Their teams are directed to new advances in science, engineering and technology.

Bauman MSTU - National University of Engineering and Technology - conducts research on priority and the most advanced areas of science, engineering and technology, based on eight technology platforms. 32 companies had included Bauman MSTU into their innovation programs of development. Today our university implements 90 major research projects on various topics. Bauman Moscow State Technical University is a founder of "Skolkovo" Fund.

Currently the strategy of the University aimed at the worker training for advanced and high-tech science and technology in Russia, the priorities of the economy, including: information and telecommunication systems, nanosystems and materials, energy and energy conservation; living systems, safety and resistance terrorism, transport and aerospace systems; strategic weapons and military equipment.
